I am thinking of starting a website that is based on increasing mental capacity. I want some general content, but then also sell stuff in this regards to people (books, toys, etc). I want content to get people to get to the site in hopes of them buying things. Any suggestions?

Best is to write it on your own, canned content will only hurt your search engine rankings, especially google that is so particular about duplicate content.

I doubt people will by stuff from this kind of web site.

I guess it depends on what you consider ‘good content’. You might hang out on some bulletin boards or something where they discuss the kind of things you want to address on your site – you might even be able to get people to help submit ideas/content.
Trust me, if there is a way to figure out how to get people to buy stuff, it has already been done – repeatedly.
You might want to think about just getting a real job.
